Forest SDO / Superintendent, National Chambal Sanctuary, MorenaUmaria
Within three months of joining she led raids on illegal sand mining in the Chambal sanctuary, where the Supreme Court banned mining in 2007. Her team was attacked (HT, June 2021). Three days after she seized illegally mined sand at the construction sites of a women's police station and a government pond, her transfer order was issued. An FIR was registered on her complaint against a Police Housing Board SDO, a sub-engineer and two contractors (ASP Morena to HT). Locals protested the transfer.
- Up against
- Illegal sand mining operators in the Chambal sanctuary; contractors on government construction Government: Shivraj Singh Chouhan (BJP), Madhya Pradesh.
- Reported reason
- HT, quoting local activists and Congress MLA Govind Singh, who alleged the mining operators had police and administrative support.
- The officer said
- 'The transfer is a normal practice for me as whenever I took a tough action against the mafia, I had to face this. Earlier too, I was transferred for the same reason.' (Facebook, quoted by HT)
- The other side said
- Minister OPS Bhadoria: 'Pandre transfer is a routine practice. We appreciate her effort to stop illegal mining but the accusation against the government and police are baseless.' SP Morena Lalit Shakyawar said police had asked her to inform them before raids so a force could be sent, but 'she hardly paid any attention to our request.' (HT)
- Outcome
- Moved to Umaria; later DFO South Shahdol.
- What became of the matter
- Unknown. Status of the FIR against the Police Housing Board officials and contractors not found.
