Verma had assisted the Gujarat High Court's SIT, which on his report held the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter 'fake'. Months after he called the killing a 'premeditated murder' in a 2016 interview, he was removed as NEEPCO's CVO. - Rijiju and the Power Ministry denied the charges in the NEEPCO report. The Home Ministry charged Verma with giving unauthorised media interviews.
- Outcome
- Charge memo 13 Aug 2018; dismissed 30 Aug 2022.
- What became of the matter
- Dismissal upheld. The Supreme Court briefly stayed the dismissal in Sep 2022; the Delhi High Court then upheld it in May 2023.
