One report
SP, Jaisalmer (first field posting, four months in)Commandant, Police Training School, Kishangarh (Ajmer)
Moved after he reopened the history sheet of Gazi Fakir, 80, an influential religious leader among Sindhi Muslims and father of Congress MLA Saleh (Shaleh) Mohammad. Jaisalmer's main markets shut in protest. The sheet, first opened on 31 Jul 1965, 'mysteriously went missing' in 1984; SP Sudhir Pratap Singh reopened it on 31 Jul 1990 and was transferred 28 days later. An acting district chief closed it in May 2011, but that was revoked because it was not taken by an SP-level officer.
- Up against
- Gazi Fakir; Saleh Mohammad, Religious leader; his son, Congress MLA, Indian National Congress Government: Congress (Ashok Gehlot), Rajasthan.
- Reported reason
- India Today: transferred 'allegedly because he reopened the history-sheet'. BJP's Gulab Chand Kataria accused the government of victimising honest officers.
- The other side said
- No government statement in the source read. Saleh Mohammad said the police case registered against him that weekend, over an incident two months earlier, was 'enough to prove malafide intention'.
- Outcome
- Transferred to a training school.
- What became of the matter
- Unknown. Whether Gazi Fakir's history sheet stayed open, and the fate of the case against Saleh Mohammad for obstructing officials, not found.
